First Steps
How do you design a game that is truly revolutionary in mechanics
and interactivity? You prototype, of course. There are a lot
of projects that have pushed in the general direction of story,
but nobody knows how to make a good multiplayer interactive-adventure
story yet. The first steps will be taken in the form of a
rapid-development prototype, based upon a modified MUD platform,
which will allow us to learn what works in a MOS (Multiplayer
Online Story) and what doesn't. This experimentation phase
will probably last for a year and promises to be a lot of
fun to play.
When it finally is ready, we'll need a lot of people willing
to sit down with a telnet client and play with each other
on our servers. We look forward to meeting you.
Future Plans
Once we have prototyped the kinds of interactions and environments
we find emotionally satisfying, culled all of the feedback
we can get, and spent a good amount of time pondering the
mysteries of the heart and mind, it is time to move on to
the next step. What format will this take? If we knew that
we wouldn't need an experimentation phase. All that we know
for sure is that it will be online and 3D. As for anything
